Kalle Rovanperä has set the early benchmark at Rally Sweden, going more than a second quicker than his rivals on Thursday’s opening stage.

Back behind the wheel of his Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 for the first time this season, world champion Kalle Rovanpera wasted little time at living up to his title.

Remarkably, the 23-year-old was 1.4 sec faster than team-mate Takamoto Katsuta through the 5.16km test, whilst Elfyn Evans assured a trio of Toyotas hold the podium positions going into Friday morning action.

So that is a wrap on the opening day of action from Rally Sweden and it is atrio of Toyotas on top of the table following the first of four runs through RedBarn Arena.

Kalle Rovanperä is the quickest of them all, remarkably going 1.4sec quickerthan his rivals on the short 5.16km blast. From us for today, it is good night, but we can not wait to welcome you backbright and early tomorrow morning for a very special run through #42 Brattbyat 08:58 local time.
